The National Environment
Conference of Brunei Darussalam gathers the leading minds of the
Sultanate and the region in an annual meet to discuss
sustainability and preservation of the environment -
a movement proudly supported and
sponsored by Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd.
This year marks the seventh year for Asia Inc. Forum in hosting
Brunei’s premier and largest conference on environmental
sustainability. The conference brings 200 key stakeholders,
consisting of lead members of the public and private sectors to
stimulate engaging topics.
‘Brunei Green Future: Ideas, Strategies, Possibilities’ was the
theme of the conference that featured experts from the United
States. The theme discussed ideas in sustaining and developing a
green environment.
The Minister
of Development Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan
Dato Seri Setia Haji Suyoi Haji Osman’s opening speech of ‘think
globally, act locally’ encourages the hall about Brunei’s
‘green’ direction. He proposes responsibilities for the
environment that using simple actions will gradually increase
society’s awareness.
One would take these words as enough inspiration to strive
towards greater feats under their own initiative but the small
acts of recycling and reusing materials would suffice the task
of playing their part
for the environment’s country.
The
conference was organised in partnership with Total E&P Borneo
B.V, Butra HeidelbergCement, Baiduri Bank and Brunei Press, with
the support of the Ministry of Development, Ministry of
Education and the Embassy of the United States of America.
As
part of their strong support for the conference, Butra
HeidelbergCement has been an active player in its Corporate
Social Responsibility. An avid corporate citizen of the
Sultanate, the company has supported numerous national events in
line with its ‘Building a Nation’ campaign.
Under the ‘Building Sustainability’ initiative, Butra
HeidelbergCement has sponsored projects such as the ‘No Plastic
Bag Weekend’, the Department of Environment, Parks and
Recreation (JASTRe) Eco-Clubs, the Beach Bunch and most avidly
the annual National Environment Conference.
In the coming years, Butra
HeidelbergCement plans
to raise its effort in playing a
bigger role to support and respond to the needs of the
environmental community and its stakeholders. |
