The Local Business Development (LBD) Program was another
flagship event hosted by Asia Inc Forum that highlighted the
growth and development of Brunei’s SMEs (Small-Medium
Enterprises) in an interactive dialogue.
The program was in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry
and Primary Resources and supported by its partners – Butra
HeidelbergCement, Baiduri
Bank,
and TOTAL with the support of
the
Entrepreneurial Development Centre (EDC) and Brunei Industrial
Development Authority (BINA).
Under the theme, “Breaking Through! Winning Strategies for
Brunei SMEs”, the 2014 LBD program began with a half-day forum
on October 1st 2014 with the Minister of Industry and Primary
Resources (MIPR) YB Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia
Awang Hj Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar delivering
the keynote address.
Invited as one of the guest speakers
for
the first plenary sessions was Butra HeidelbergCement’s Managing
Director, Marcelino Ugarte, who participated in the discussion
topic “From Local to Global”
with
the question of how local brands can strengthen their home base
as well as how they can transition into the global market. Among
the strongest points of discussions were on the strategies
implemented by the existing local brands and their advice to
other brands on how to penetrate the international arena. Also
part of the discussion session was Malaysia’s Strategic
Co-Creation Group Co- Founder, Dr Peter Ting, as well as
Managing Director and Producer
The other element of this year’s LBD Forum was a one-and-half
day workshop
on
Strategic Business Transformation (Value Innovation Program)
that was conducted
by
Dr Peter Ting. The workshop aimed to
lay
the foundation of achieving sustainable breakthrough business
growth by first
shaping
the mindsets of the entrepreneurs and then sharpening their
focus with a set
of
VIP toolkits to create a first-cut growth blueprint for their
respective businesses. The workshop was attended by 30 selected
SMEs from across the key industries and was held at the Radisson
Hotel.
